Phu My Hung – 30 years Jouney of Aspiration

After a favorable start with the project of Tan Thuan Export Processing Zone, in 1993, CT&D Group (current name is Phu My Hung Asia Holdings) and Tan Thuan Industrial Promotion Company Ltd. – IPC (under the people’s committee of  Ho Chi Minh City) continued joint venture to establish Phu My Hung Corporation with two major functions: building Nguyen Van Linh Parkway and building 5 urban sites (A, B, C, D, E) along Nguyen Van Linh Parkway, according to the Saigon South master plan approved by the prime minister.

Phu My Hung urban area (site A) has an area of 433 ha, belonging to Phu My commune, Nha Be district in the past, which was a swampy area, agricultural production had low economic value. With tireless efforts of many generations, Phu My Hung new urban area was gradually formed. Infrastructure such as traffic, electricity, water, telecommunications, etc. and social facilities, such as schools, hospitals, commercial and financial centers, etc. were built and completed in each period, creating an urban space with good quality of life. After 30 years of construction and development, Phu My Hung has become one of the most livable urban areas in Vietnam, a pioneering model in the development, operation and management of urban areas. Currently, Phu My Hung is considered as the financial and economic center of the southern region of the city, attracting more than 39,000 residents and many large domestic and foreign enterprises to set up offices and headquarters. business, creating a favorable premise for Ho Chi Minh City’s big goal: developing the city towards the East Sea. On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Phu My Hung Corporation (May 19, 1993 – May 19, 2023), Phu My Hung Newsletter would like to invite you to look back on the 30-year journey from a swamp to a civilized and modern Phu My Hung area – a journey full of pride and aspiration, through the following photo reportage.

Part 1: Rise from the swamp

Actual image of the old land of Nha Be, in the 1990s, the time of preparation to deploy the Phu My Hung urban area project. Formerly Nha Be was a swampy area, sparsely populated, agricultural production activities were backward and did not bring high economic efficiency.

In 1993, the International Planning Competition for the Saigon South Urban Area was held. As a result, the Master plan of Saigon South urban area 2,600 ha, with 21 functional subdivisions (including Phu My Hung urban area) by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill Company (USA), along with technical advice of Koetter Kim & Associates Company (USA) and Kenzo Tange & Associates (Japan) was selected. On December 8, 1994, the Master Plan of Saigon South New Urban Area was approved by the Prime Minister in Decision No. 749/TTg.

On May 19, 1993, Phu My Hung Corporation was established with the function of building and developing 5 urban sites (A, B, C, D, E) and building Nguyen Van Linh Parkway according to The Master Plan of Saigon South New Urban Area approved by the Government.

In the following years, Phu My Hung Corporation started leveling activities, built infrastructure for Phu My Hung and started the construction of phase 1 of Nguyen Van Linh Parkway.

Saigon South School and Saigon South International School (SSIS) are the first social facilities built in Phu My Hung urban area.

In April 1998, Phu My Hung announced the first housing project – My Canh project. In the early 2000s, Phu My Hung began to welcome the first residents to live here.

In the next 5 years, from 2003 – 2008, Phu My Hung continued to build housing projects, with many different product lines, such as: My An, Hung Vuong, My Khanh, Park View, The Grand View, Phu Gia, The Panorama, Riverside Residence, etc. Social facilities were also completed with a system of schools, hospitals, office buildings.

In 2007, Nguyen Van Linh Parkway completed phase 3 with a length of 17.8 km, a width of 120m, becoming the lifeline route of the southern area of the city. In 2008, Phu My Hung was recognized by the Ministry of Construction as “The first model urban area of Vietnam”.

Community events have also started to be held in Phu My Hung urban area, such as Lawrence S. Ting Charity Walk, Phu My Hung Spring Flower Festival, Kite Flying Contest, Painting Contest, etc. attracting many people to participate, bringing a lively rhythm of life to the urban area.

In the period 2008 – 2018, Phu My Hung gradually improved the quality of living space of the urban area with the construction and putting into use of many utility projects, such as Lawrence S. Ting School, Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center (SECC), Anh Sao bridge, Crescent Mall, etc.

During this period, high-end housing projects were implemented, such as: Happy Valley, Chateau, Star Hill, Scenic Valley, Green View, Hung Phuc, etc. which basically shaped the appearance of a civilized and modern Phu My Hung.

Part 2: Phu My Hung age 30

Age 30 – Phu My Hung is considered the economic, financial, cultural, entertainment, educational center of the southern region of the city.
